Dimming Guide

Dimming is not controlled by the fixture alone. It depends on the bulb or LED driver, wall dimmer, wiring method and voltage. Use this page to check compatibility before choosing a dimmer or bulb.

Quick answer

A fixture should be treated as dimmable only when the selected bulb or LED driver is dimmable and the wall control is compatible. If any part of the system is mismatched, the light may flicker, buzz, fail to dim smoothly or not turn on correctly.

What to confirm

  • Bulb type: Replaceable bulbs must be marked dimmable if dimming is required.
  • Integrated LED: Confirm whether the driver supports dimming before pairing with a wall control.
  • Dimmer type: Use a dimmer designed for the selected LED bulb or driver.
  • Load range: Some dimmers require a minimum wattage to work correctly.
  • Voltage: Confirm local voltage and product compatibility before installation.

Common dimming issues

Flicker Often caused by an incompatible dimmer, non-dimmable bulb or low load.
Buzzing Can come from the bulb, driver or dimmer. Compatibility is the first thing to check.
Limited dim range Some LED systems only dim within a certain range.
Uneven multi-light dimming Use matching bulbs and confirm total load on the dimmer.

Safer buying path

  • If dimming matters, ask before ordering and include the product link.
  • Use matching bulbs across multi-light fixtures.
  • For hardwired installations, have a qualified electrician confirm the dimmer and wiring.
  • Keep packaging and bulb specifications until the installation is tested.

FAQ

Can every chandelier be dimmed?
